High-speed, real-time and intelligent detection technology has become the key to high production capacity of production lines. Edge computing and artificial intelligence have set off a new trend of science and technology. Industrial Research Institute has joined hands with semiconductor solution supplier Lianfa Technology to build "intelligent factory 5G + AI sub-system heterogeneous size nuclear platform". In the future, it will assist semiconductor, electronic assembly, system factory and other manufacturing industries to push the industry towards intelligent factory through the added value of AI artificial intelligence.

According to the Markets and Markets report, the global edge computing market is expected to grow rapidly from US $53.6 billion in 2023 to US $111.3 billion in 2028. In 2025, nearly 75% of the world's enterprise data will be generated and processed at the edge outside the data center/cloud.

Zhang Shijie, director of the Institute of Electronics and Optoelectronic Systems of the Institute of Industrial Research, said that the high-performance large core of the "Intelligent Factory 5G + AI Subsystem Heterogeneous Size Nuclear Platform" is responsible for high-load applications such as AI computing and 5G communication. The power-saving small core can be connected to sensors and peripheral devices. When operating at low load, the system will automatically shut down the large core. Compared with edge computing devices of the same level, the power consumption can be reduced by 50%.

This platform can also additionally expand high-performance AI acceleration cards to improve computing power, import factory field verification to implement 3D image recognition technology in the production line, and this edge computing solution will also be extended to a wider range of industrial applications in the future.

The Institute of Industry and Research has successfully connected the domestic large factory systems such as Lianfa Technology, Lingtong Technology and Qinchuang Capital, and used edge operations to provide applications such as online monitoring of production lines, abnormal analysis of equipment pre-diagnosis, re-inspection of AOI defects in production lines, identification of personnel/wearing protective gear and 5G real-time image identification. In terms of "personnel/wearing protective equipment identification technology", like the intelligent ambulance in the factory, it can identify whether the personnel are fainted and correctly equipped with protective equipment in real time, effectively improving the work safety of the on-site environment.
